Educational Program Research |
| |
|
CDCS was asked by GCCC to research, identify, and recommend new degree, professional development, and youth programs to offer as part of the development of its future Environmental Education Center on Panama City Beach, FL. CDCS conducted extensive research to identify skill and workforce needs for emerging jobs in the Panhandle of Florida and within the region. Research was facilitated using a number of methods. These methods included the following:
» personal interviews with industry representatives
» phone calls to surrounding institutions of higher education
» Internet search
» survey to potential employers
Based on the above findings, CDCS developed a comprehensive list of recommended A.A., A.S. and Certificate Degrees, professional development (workforce) training, and youth programs.
GCCC reviewed this list and has recommended that all suggestions made by CDCS be incorporated into the educational programming as part of the development of its Environmental Education Center. |

Environmental Project Development |
| |
|
| CDCS facilitated and sustained the design development of its future Environmental Educational Center (EEC). This center is envisioned to be very different from the typical government and educational building. The EEC is being designed to be an international showcase as a sustainable building. Using the U.S. Green Building Design guidelines, at least one of its many buildings is to be designed to meet the gold certification level. The responsibility of CDCS entailed project communication, project management, and follow through with the projects architects, engineers, state and federal agencies, and GCCC administration, faculty and staff. For two years, CDCS maintained weekly correspondence with the above project stakeholders and advanced the design of the Environmental Education Center to a point that it was ready to be built. |
